Frequently Asked Questions

Return or Cancellation Policy

Cancellation of Contests is on request for a refund or credit for the following year. Unused books may be returned for a full refund. Please email support@cmleague.com for help with a return or cancellation.

What is a team?

When you register a team in any of our Leagues/Contests, you can administer the questions to as many students as you wish. Your team score is your top 6 student scores in math or your top 10 student scores for all other subjects. For our leagues, student names can change from meet to meet. You report your team scores on score forms provided or by visiting the results section of our website.

Example: You register a grade 5 math team. You can give 5 meets to as many grade 5 students as you wish. After each meet, you list the top 6 student scores – this sum becomes your team score. For Meets 2, 3 ,4 and 5 different student names can be listed on the score form and their scores when added up become your team score for that meet. Your cumulative score is the sum of the previous and current Meet scores.

What is the difference between the Euclidean and Pythagorean Divisions in Math?

For grades 4 – 9 we offer two divisions – the Euclidean and Pythagorean divisions. The Euclidean division has questions calling upon average reading comprehension and analytical reasoning. The Pythagorean division has questions calling upon above-average reading comprehension and analytical reasoning. There is only one set of questions for all other Leagues/Contests.

Note: A team cannot participate in both the Euclidean and Pythagorean Divisions. However, many schools enter one team in the Euclidean Division and a different team (in the same or a different grade level) in the Pythagorean Division.

Must the meets/contests be given on the exact dates?

No, but meets should be given as close to the scheduled dates as possible. For the contests – they can be given on any day in a designated two week period.

Are late results accepted?

Yes. For a school to be listed in the Meet/Contest print-outs sent to each school, we need to receive score sheets about ten days after the Meet/Contest is scheduled. If a school misses this deadline, we still count their results in future print-outs. (Under certain circumstances a school that is late too often could not be a regional or national winner, but the students are all eligible for a regional or national award.)

How do I view sample tests?

Sample tests can be found for every grade of every Contest. Go to the web page for the subject you are interested in. For example, to find the math samples, go to the “math” page. Scroll to the bottom where you see the products. Click on the large “CML” logo above the grade level you are interested in. A page will open where you can download the sample.

If a student’s school does not participate can the student still participate as a “Home School”?

A Home School to us does not necessarily mean a student is schooled at home – rather, simply a student that wishes to participate when his or her school does not. So yes, we attach Home School to the student’s last name such as the Smith Home School. The fee is reduced to $25 per child for each League/Contest. No student may participate on a school team and as a “Home School ” team.

To participate as a “Home School” register with your email address and create an account, but do not purchase any products. Then email support@cmleague.com so we can designate your account to receive the special pricing. Once we have done that, we will let you know that you are ready to buy your products.

An example: A student is registered for grade 5 Euclidean Division math and for a grade 5 Science. Cost is $50.

Can the Best of CML Math Books be ordered by Parents?

Yes, absolutely. You can order CML Math Books via this website. Books are $35 each and $27 for League members and parents whose child attends a school in the League.

Are there shipping/handling charges?

No. There are no additional fees for shipping and handling when purchasing CML Books or joining our Leagues/Contests.

Can students with a 504 plan or IEP get accommodations?

Yes, for special needs students please follow the same procedures for other standardized tests and allow for any accommodations within the students’ plan.

Terms and Conditions

Terms and Conditions for Math Testing Services
Last Updated: August 1, 2026

This Terms and Conditions Agreement is entered into by and between Continental Mathematics League (“Company,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) and the purchasing educational institution, school, or school district (“Institution,” “you,” or “your”).

By executing an Order Form, issuing a Purchase Order, or allowing students to access our assessments, Institution agrees to be bound by these Terms.

1. Services and Scope of Use
•In-Person Administration: Company provides digital math testing materials, scoring frameworks, and reporting services. Institution is solely responsible for providing physical testing facilities and qualified proctors to administer the tests.
•Institutional License: Company grants Institution a non-exclusive, non-transferable, limited license to administer the specified math assessments only to students actively enrolled in the purchasing school or district.
•Prohibited Use: Institution shall not share, transfer, or distribute testing materials to unaffiliated schools, districts, or third-party tutoring centers.

2. Fees, Invoicing, and One-Time Payments
•One-Time Testing Fees: All fees are structured as a one-time charge per Team as specified in the signed Order Form. There are no recurring subscription renewals.
•Payment Terms: Institution agrees to pay all invoices within thirty (30) days of the invoice date unless otherwise specified in writing.
•Late Payments: Past due balances may be subject to a late fee of 1.5% per month or the maximum rate permitted by law.
•No Refunds: Because testing materials and custom reporting slots are allocated upon purchase, all one-time fees are non-refundable once testing licenses or physical materials are delivered to the Institution.

3. Test Security and Academic Integrity
•Physical Security: Institution must store all physical test sheets and answer keys in a secure, locked location prior to and after test administration.
•Proctoring Responsibilities: Institution agrees to strictly enforce testing rules. Proctors must ensure students do not use unauthorized materials, unapproved calculators, mobile phones, or external aids.
•Compromised Tests: Institution must immediately notify Company if they suspect a breach of test security (e.g., a missing booklet or a student photographing test items). Company reserves the right to invalidate scores from affected testing rooms or cohorts without liability or refund.

4. Intellectual Property
•Proprietary Rights: All testing items, math problems, scoring rubrics, software interfaces, algorithms, and analytical reports are the sole and exclusive intellectual property of the Company.
•No Derivative Works: Institution, its teachers, and its staff shall not copy, modify, adapt, reproduce, or create derivative works (such as study guides or practice worksheets) using active test questions.

5. Student Data Privacy and Compliance
•School Official Status: To the extent that Company receives student personally identifiable information (PII), Company acknowledges that it acts as a “school official” with a legitimate educational interest under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
•Data Ownership: Institution retains all ownership rights to student individual performance data.
•Permitted Use: Company may only use student data to perform the testing and reporting services outlined in this agreement. Company will never sell student data or use it for targeted advertising.

6. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
•No Outcome Guarantees: Company provides data points on mathematical proficiency. Company does not guarantee that test results will ensure state compliance, funding benchmarks, or specific student growth metrics.
•Limitation of Damages: To the maximum extent permitted by law, neither party shall be liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Company’s total liability under this agreement shall not exceed the total one-time fees paid by the Institution in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

7. Term and Termination
•Term: This Agreement begins on the date of purchase and remains active until all purchased test administrations and final reporting services are completed.
•Survival: Provisions regarding Intellectual Property, Data Privacy, Payment, and Limitation of Liability shall survive the completion of this agreement.
